Foundry Adhesives: Types, Benefits, and Curing Method
What Are Foundry Adhesives?
Foundry adhesives are specialized bonding agents used to assemble and reinforce core packages in metalcasting processes. At HA International (HAI), we offer a complete line of adhesives formulated for cold cure, hot cure, and microwave cure applications.
Most of our adhesives are designed for cold and microwave curing, using sodium silicate (water glass) bases and inorganic fillers. This formulation ensures minimal gas evolution, making them ideal for critical, high-integrity core assemblies.
Why Are Low-Gas Foundry Adhesives Important?
Low gas-emitting adhesives are essential in foundry operations because they:
-
Maintain bond stability under elevated temperatures
-
Prevent defects caused by gas pressure during metalcasting
-
Enhance the overall quality of complex or multi-core packages
What Curing Methods Are Available for Foundry Adhesives?
HAI supports multiple adhesive curing options to meet the demands of diverse core-making environments:
-
Cold Cure Adhesives: Air-curing formulas that can be heat-accelerated
-
Microwave Cure Adhesives: Rapid-curing systems compatible with microwave processing
-
Hot Cure Adhesives: Thermally activated adhesives used in oven or hot-box applications
What is Klebepaste SB?
Klebepaste SB is a sodium-silicate adhesive for foundry use, delivered in a flexible squeeze tube. It offers performance comparable to our Coreweld NB Standard with cleaner, more controlled application and reduced waste.
How is Klebepaste SB different from Coreweld NB Standard?
- Same chemistry class/performance intent.
- Packaging: Klebepaste SB comes in flexible squeeze tubes for better control.
- Waste reduction: Tube format helps empty nearly all material vs. rigid bottles.
